Welcome to Elastyc: Our “Hello World” Moment!
As of today, we're a dynamic two-person team—myself (Tom) and Jony—working behind the scenes on Elastyc, which we’ve been building since late last year. We soft-launched with our first customer this past summer, and now, after a whirlwind few months, we’re thrilled to finally introduce our blog!
Our Origin Story
Before Elastyc, I spent over 20 years in engineering and product roles, from co-founding startups to working in Fortune 500 companies. Along the way, I realized something crucial: while recruiting is the most important thing you can do for a company, it’s also one of the most time-consuming and frustrating processes.
From writing job descriptions to reviewing resumes and scheduling interviews, I spent hundreds of hours on recruitment. I knew there had to be a better way, and that’s why Elastyc was born—to streamline the recruiting process using AI and automation.
In the early stages, I spoke with nearly 50 potential customers, and two insights stuck with me:
1️⃣ It takes around 200 hours to hire a single employee (knowledge worker). Some companies had it down to 100 hours or less, but others reported as much as 500 hours per hire!
2️⃣ 80% of those hours are spent on top-of-the-funnel tasks. Reviewing resumes and prospecting take the lion’s share of time.
With these findings, we knew exactly where to focus our energy—automating the most tedious parts of recruiting.
In Spring 2024, I reconnected with Jony, who I had worked with at FanBridge years ago. Jony had spent over a decade at Stensul, helping them grow to over 100 employees. He understood the pain points in recruiting and, after a few conversations, he joined as Elastyc’s co-founder and CTO.
So, What’s in a Name?
During the early days, I stumbled across a concept called "Human-in-the-loop Elastic AI"—an idea where human input and AI work together to make smarter decisions. This blend of flexibility (elasticity) and adaptability really resonated with what we wanted to achieve at Elastyc: an AI-powered system that works with recruiters to refine hiring criteria and improve results. And so, the name Elastyc was born (the available domain name didn’t hurt either)!
What is Elastyc today?
Elastyc is an AI-powered recruiting co-pilot, designed to automate those time-consuming top-of-the-funnel tasks. In less than 20 minutes, hiring managers can connect their ATS, define applicant evaluation criteria, and let Elastyc generate detailed scorecards for every candidate. These scorecards are seamlessly sent back to the ATS, with daily reports sent via email and Slack. (We're adding Microsoft Teams soon!)
We also provide scorecards and reports for LinkedIn-sourced prospects, giving you a comprehensive view of your talent pool.
What’s Next for Us?
Our vision for Elastyc goes beyond just automating the initial stages of recruiting. We see a future where AI can assist with scheduling, interviewing, making offers, and onboarding. A chatbot that can handle it all? That’s where we’re headed, but for now, we’re laser-focused on refining our current product and continuing to delight our customers.
